Description
Opinel No.8 Carbon Steel
Very versatile, the Opinel No.8 Carbon Steel is essential for DIY, camping, hunting, and general use. It offers an excellent cutting quality. The beech wood handle is comfortable in the hand. The safety ring allows the user to work without any risks.
Blade Material
Carbon steel XC90. Our carbon steel is extremely hard, thereby guaranteeing excellent cutting quality, good wear resistance and easy regrinding on the Carbon Steel blade. Carbon Steel can corrode easily. We advise you to avoid damp locations and to wipe and grease the blade after use. The blade requires maintenance.
Shape
The classic Opinel blade has adopted a Yatagan shape. Inspired by a traditional Turkish saber, the Yatagan shape is the toe up. The blade is ground to an exclusive convex profile. This ensures the strength of the blade and allows efficient regrinding.
Handle
Opinel uses beech as the most common wood for its knife handles. PEFC-certified, the wood comes from eco-managed farms in the Jura and Vercors regions. Beech wood is hard, resistant and easy to work. It is homogeneous in appearance, with a light color ranging from yellow to pink. It can be recognized by the presence of numerous small dark lines. Tinted varnish protects the handle from moisture and dirt.
Lock
Marcel Opinel invented the Virobloc safety ring in 1955, and Opinel fits it to all folding knives from the N°06 upward. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), additionally, it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport).
